Roy Lambert NLH Associates ![]() | Raul Interesting. So from when I noticed things had gone down I make that a week until someone brought it to him. I'm reading it to mean they have a grand total of one person on it. However, I have difficulty in working out if its a h/w or s/w problem. My initial reaction was h/w but re-reading I started thinking s/w. I'm sure we either will or won't find out some day. Roy Lambert |

I believe it was earlier than that - there was another posting of his around Aug 12 or so that they "are working on it and it should be up soon" and then on 15th this update. > I'm reading it to mean they have a grand total of one person on it. Not enough info but my guess is that they tried to bring it up aug 12/13 and then something else happened - possibly hw - impacting data as well. So it's a major problem - my wild guess is that server was lost as well as data so now it's rebuild and restore time. Might be just him since NGs are not high priority and/or additional resources might not be of much use depending on what stage this is at. Raul |

It could be that they've been doing transactional backups and now they're rolling it all forward. I do know some horror stories about that ![]() One piece of good has come out of this. I flag emb ng articles for keeping or not. Those I don't want are flushed after 30 days of inactivity on the thread. I'll soon have a nice clean set of databases. Just to make it clear. This applies to emb only I have a full set of Elevate's ngs Roy Lambert |

But every (new) message I try to read returns an error message (to Mozilla Thunderbird). Old/read messages show properly. -- Aage J. |

Roy Lambert NLH Associates ![]() | Aage I can download a newsgroup I've never subscribed to (algorithms) but nothing comes down for those groups I'm a member of. I suspect, and I'll check it out, that they've renumbered all the posts so that I won't be able to download until the number passes the point I've already downloaded, or I zap everything and start again. The latter will be very annoying since there are posts I want to keep and refer to and those I'm not bothered with. If I'm right trying to get things back into sync will be fun. Oh deep joy! Roy Lambert NLH Associates ![]() | Matthew I am very fortunate that I'd just put my cuppa down before reading that. It would have meant a new computer or at least a lengthly period drying out my laptops keyboard and monitor. Roy Lambert |

When E...o approaches stability I will probably have to download everything (again! - I just to do that on this new pc), then sort on date, mark most of it as "Read", and so on. Maybe it is a good thing that I am on sick leave - with time to spare. -- Aage J. |

I did something like that way back when I first wrote my mail/news client, but changed to flagging threads I didn't want to read and just keeping the others. >When E...o approaches stability I will probably have to download >everything (again! - I just to do that on this new pc), then sort on >date, mark most of it as "Read", and so on. I'll probably end up taking a similar approach. Roy Lambert |
