How to access iPhone photos |

Roy Lambert NLH Associates Team Elevate | Many many moons ago I was foolish and wrote a small program to download photos from my wife's digi cam. Software that came with the cameras always had its own opinion of where to put them on the PC, and wanted you to use its own library. My poor wife got very confused hence the small program. Over the years several other people have been given a copy of the program including my wife's aged aunt (she's about 85 and lives c350 miles away from us) who has acquired an iPhone.
I've tried coaching her over TeamViewer to use iTunes - FAIL, I've also tried coaching her to use Windows Explorer - BIG FAIL. My little program will handle a memory card, a camera, most android phones but not an iPhone. I do not have an iPhone to try anything out, nor do I know anyone foolish enough to trust me with their's for an extended period I have googled but found nothing to explain it in a way I can understand (I did find reference to IPortableDeviceContent and the Windows documentation is in C++ but doesn't look as though it will do what I want and I have no iPhone to experiment with) Anyone have any code snippets they can share? Sorry no code snippets. If iCloud photo sync is enabled on the phone then one can just install windows version of iCloud on PC and it will auto sync all photos to the normal photos folder (and keep syncing new ones as they are taken). >Sorry no code snippets. Judging from my lack of success with google I cannot say I'm surprised >If iCloud photo sync is enabled on the phone then one can just install >windows version of iCloud on PC and it will auto sync all photos to the >normal photos folder (and keep syncing new ones as they are taken). Hmmm - remembering her general tech incompetence and having to do everything over TeamViewer I'll keep this as emergency plan B Roy |

Ian Branch | Hi Roy,
When I plug my iPhone into my Win 10 PC it appears as another 'device/drive' that I can access using windows explorer or whatever. See attached, HTH, Ian Attachments: Screenshot_9.jpg |

Can you access it programmatically, and get your program to select the iPhone without user intervention? We're talking here about an elderly lady who can screw her smart TV up just using its standard remote! Roy Lambert |

Ian Branch | Hmmm. No I can't.
None of the normal components, dialogs, directorylists, etc, want to recognise the iPhone, let alone any of its directories. Depending which Windows App I use depends what the iPhone directory resolves as.. "This PC\Apple iPhone\Internal Storage\DCIM\100APPLE" "::{20D04FE0-3AEA-1069-A2D8-08002B30309D}\\\?\usb#vid_05ac&pid_12a8&mi_00#6&299ac790&3&0000#{6ac27878-a6fa-4155-ba85-f98f491d4f33}\SID-{10004,Internal Storage,32000000000}\{000006F4-0000-0000-F406-000000000000}\{00000718-0000-0000-1807-000000000000}" Using either of those to point programatically fails. Yet, it must be doable as Windows Apps work. Also, there may be more than one folder on the iPhone with pictures on them. See attached. Sorry Pal Ian. Attachments: Screenshot_3.jpg |

Thanks for checking. I either need an iPhone (not happening) or a 300 mile long USB cable As you say there must be someway I just don't know what (yet). Roy Lambert |

Roy Lambert NLH Associates Team Elevate | Just to let Ian & Raul know I think after much googling I think I've found something. First thing is that I found out my wife's old Canon Powershot works in a similar way - no driver number so I have something I can (possibly) experiment on. I'll find out tomorrow when I transfer the app I found to Rachel's aunt's PC and test on her iPhone.
Apparently the keywords are "Media Transfer Protocol". I found a long thread on Experts Exchange which has something that looks as though it works. Now all I have to do is understand it enough to do what I need Roy Lambert |

>If it's Windows 10 then the Photos app allows import from connected >devices which is kind of what your app does but might be an altenative Its one of the things I've considered. Now I can experiment with the Photoshot I'll give it a look. I've just resurrected my W10 tower to try it on so after another couple of days when kits finished updating (its been enjoying a rest/feeding the moths for the last few months) I'll have a play with the app. Roy |
