The mysterious #504 Error. |
Fri, May 31 2024 3:48 PM | Permanent Link |
Malcolm Taylor | If I have never had the ElevateDB Trial edition with its 2 licensed
sessions but always the paid, 32-bit VCL version with its 4096 licensed sessions, how come my users sometimes report the #504 error telling them that a sixth connection attempt has exceeded the 5 connection limit? Is my sofware really limited to 5 concurrent database licensed sessions? Is the 4K licensed sessions only relevant for the webserver while a local edbsrvr on Windows 11 is deliberately limited to 25% of the Windows Connection limits? I can't find any information about this. Can anyone clue me up or point me at the appropriate Help or other documentation. It would be helpful if I could increase the limi to, say, 10 on the local LAN instead of 5. Malcolm |

I think you're confusing sessions and connections - its easy. Connections are the number of users connected to the server. Each use may have many sessions eg in one of my apps each user will have a background thread checking for new emails - it has a different session to the main thread so each connection will be at least two sessions. >Is my sofware really limited to 5 concurrent database licensed >sessions? The server that comes with the standard version is limited to 5 connections, the pro version (where you get the source) is limited to whatever you set it to. Have a look at these two threads - there's a small possibility one of them will help a bit. I could not find anywhere the mention of the freebee edbsrvr having that limit. Ever since I switched to c/s using edbsrvr, my users have never reached the (5) limit. But now, a few young English hotheads with more money than sense have decided they 'need' to have 6 or 7. <sigh> Malcolm |

<<more money than sense>> Then I suggest you tell them they need to buy your "Pro" version and charge them the full amount to upgrade your copy of ElevateDB to Pro! There may be ways round it by aggressively disconnecting and reconnecting but it would involve a lot of work and messing about. Roy Lambert |

Malcolm Taylor | Hi Roy.
Actually the 'hotheads' want to bend my software for purposes outwith my designs. So as it is not a simple matter of unearthing some setting I have overlooked, I am not about to oblige them. Also as I am now well into my eighties I have announced my retiral from further development and that my support, website and software/ will cease to exist at the end of 2025. Conveniently my web host, while a lot younger, has also given notice they too will close down at the time! This has not gone down too well with my users around the World who will have to switch to a US replacement ($$$) or write their own one (£££/€€€) to replace my feebie. The price of progress! In that case, since your's is a freebie, why not open source it? Roy Lambert |

Story too long for here. Short version... I suggested a new US software rival but Europe was not prepared even to consider any US product not to entice them in at acceptable costs then up the ante thereafter! Also the US guys are developing for the web and mobile which my European and further afield users discount due to poor venue Internet connectivity in too many areas .. they have to be able to operate off the web too often. Europe formed a project team to develop their own software or try to continue mine. 15 months later they have made a tentative start but don't have any volunteer software developer yet. I gave the team a copy of (most of) my D11.3 source to look at but they can't afford the cost of the IDE never mind the third party items I have used. So one of their number has set up a copy of the Community Edition and grabbed a couple of third party trial versions ... but still can't get past the Compile. We shall just have to see what happens ..... but they've only got another 18 months! |
