Greetings

A number of posts have been raised relating to this issue but I have not been able to find an answer.

I have my valid EDB Backup file. When I attempt to restore the file (including the catalog) in EDB Manager, I receive the message:

* ElevateDB Error #300 Cannot lock the database ES_StockDB for exclusive access

This occurs even if the EDBSRVR service is disabled and the database is closed in EDB Manager.

Does anyone have any clues as to what is causing EDB Manager to determine that the database is being used by another process?

Thank you.
Richard

Hi Richard

If you are going to be restoring the Catalog as well as the rest of the database it is worth trying to restore the backup file into a wholly new directory first, with a different name. If this restore works, you at least know the Backup file is OK.

"cannot lock" errors often result from conflicts in access to a DB, different applications accessing a database 1 in "local" mode and client-server mode at the same time.

When this happens sometimes there is a build up of Temp files which seems to confuse the database.

These files have names like:

LAPTOP17012376435765DBName2.EDBIdx

If there really is no one accessing the database ALL these files can be safely deleted.

You can also try deleting the EDBConfig.EDBCfg,  EDBConfig.EDBLck and EDBConfig.EDBLog files IF you are definitely restoring the catalog. These files may be holding incorrect details about your database.
